CT SCAN PET SCAN MAMMOGRAPHY MRI SCAN What is an MRI scan? MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. An MRI scanner uses a magnetic field and radio waves to build up detailed pictures of various parts of the body. Computer systems help with this. There are no “x-rays” used in this procedure. What is Mammography? Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system for the examination of breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used as a screening tool to detect early breast cancer in women experien- cing no symptoms and to detect and diagnose breast disease in women experiencing symptoms such as a lump, pain or nipple discharge.
